Art by the Yard project funded by Jackson County Family Court. (2008-2011) Filmed and edited by Richard. A series of documentaries of the youth of Kansas City who find themselves in violent environments and what they do to cope with daily challenges at school, on the street, and in their homes over the past four years. Background:
Michele and Richard served as top level executives in the Kansas City based non-profit, Storytellers, Inc. for the years 1997-2009 (Michele) and 1997-2011 (Richard). The artists often performed multiple responsibilities on each project including concept and strategies, grant writing, management, staff training, facilitation and evaluation. Their roles in each project are detailed below.

North East Corridor Mural
Program funded by Jackson County Prosecutor's Office - C.O.M.B.AT. (2008-2009) Michele and Richard designed the mural through interviews with refugees from around the world who have settled in the Kansas City northeast corridor. The mural was painted by Michele and Rich along with other artists and youth. The mural depicts the symbolic integration of United States values with native values of the numerous cultures and their aspirations to one day return to their native lands. |

Sentenced to the Arts
Program funded by Jackson County Prosecutor's Office - – C.O.M.B.AT. (1998-2005) Artistic programs facilitated within 3 Jackson County Family Court Residential facilities for adjudicated youth. Each program offered the young adults hands on experience in creating films and audio CDs, writing and publishing their own books, and creating public works of art. 160 teenage youth yearly. Michele and Richard's role included concept and strategy of curriculum, staff hiring and training, program management and facilitation. |

18th and Vine Jazz District Murals
funded by Jackson County Prosecutor's Office – C.O.M.B.AT., The Jazz District Renaissance Corporation (JDRC), FOCUS K. C. (2004) Outline of mural was produced on large vinyl banners and the mural was painted by 70 students. The final mural covered a construction wall during some rebuilding of the Vine District. Michele and Richard's role included strategy, program management and facilitation. |

Miracle on 39th St;
Prospect for Change Neighborhood revitalization funded by Jackson County Prosecutor's Office - C.O.M.B.AT. (2002) Clean up of area and creation of mural. Final celebration included stage performances of local poets and musicians. 75 youth, 30 adults participated in the event. Michele and Richard's role included strategy, program management and facilitation. |
