Art by the Yard is the collaborative studio practice of artists Richard and Michele Fritz.
Art by the Yard produces fine art, creative content, and socially engaged art projects using a wide range of mediums; including installation, painting, collage, books, video and audio, animation, and digital media.
Our work is rooted in traditional studio practice, social engagement, and arts education. We create fine artwork while also collaborating with artists, organizations, and communities to develop innovative creative projects that invite public participation and support. |

For over three decades, we have worked alongside schools, nonprofits, youth programs, and civic organizations to create large-scale collaborative artworks that reflect the stories, resilience, and creativity of the communities involved.
Many of these projects have taken place in neighborhoods of Kansas City where arts opportunities are limited. By guiding participants through shared painting, mosaic, and public art processes, we help transform individual contributions into unified works that celebrate identity, belonging, and possibility.
